Community Rosh Hashanah Lunch

On Sunday, September 17, the Bernard Betel Centre hosted a community Rosh Hashanah lunch for some of the most marginalized and vulnerable clients of the Jewish community. This event was sponsored by the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs and UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. Jewish Family and Child, Reena, Circle of Care, JVS, JIAS Toronto and the Kehilla Residential Programme invited clients to this event. Over 150 individuals were invited including 65 of Betel's clients and members.

The lunch was an opportunity to share the community voices and stories with elected officials and policy-makers, in addition to mobilizing support for reducing hunger. Politicians and volunteers served lunch to all attendees and other volunteers organized games and activities for the children. We were honoured to have the following individuals from all levels of government attend this very successful event: Premier Kathleen Wynne, City of Toronto Mayor John Tory, MP Michael Levitt, Councillor James Pasternak, MPP Gila Martow, MP Julie Dabrusin, MP Marco Mendiciono, MPP David Zimmer, MP Majid Jowhari, City of Markham Deputy Mayor Jack Heath, and MP Ali Ehsassi.
