The Russian Golden Age Group (RGA)

Before the establishment of this program in 1983, there was no Canadian organization offering Russian-language recreational or educational programs for seniors. Nor was there any organization helping Russian seniors to integrate into their Canadian community. The Centre was a “natural” site, as the Bathurst Street/Steeles Avenue area is densely populated with Russian immigrants, many of whom have come to Toronto as older adults to join their children.

The RGA was established to provide Russian-speaking seniors, particularly new immigrants, with help adapting to a foreign culture, to learn English, to socialize with people of a similar background, to establish new friendships and to connect with health and social services.

The RGA offers comprehensive recreational and educational opportunities, community support and wellness activities to Russian-speaking seniors ages 55+. The club provides a variety of programs in the Russian language, including daytime programs such as choir, movies, library, travel and day trips, and nighttime programs such as parties, concerts and lectures.

The RGA provides a variety of classes in the Russian language, including computer, literature, and painting. For more details, please call Lily Boltianski at (416) 225-2112, ext 103 or email
