How to Use YouTube: A Beginner’s Guide

Before you start, make sure you have a valid email address.

YouTube is a video-sharing website where users can upload, share and view videos.

Visit to get started. To search for and watch videos, you can use the search field on the upper left of the page, or you can simply browse. To connect with the Betel Centre’s videos, visit our YouTube channel at the Betel Centre YouTube Page.

If you’d like to post your own videos, you need to create your own account. The "Create Account" link is in the upper right corner of the YouTube home page. Once you click that link, you’ll be prompted through the sign-up process.

Once you’ve created an account, you’ll have your own "channel." Your channel is your YouTube home page where you can see all the videos you’ve uploaded, as well as the friends you’ve connected with, etc. If you upload and share videos, the channel view will also give you information on how popular your videos are and who is watching them.

To upload videos, click the "Upload" link on the upper part of the screen and follow the instructions. You’ll soon be sharing your videos with the YouTube community.

As with other Social Media tools, the best way to become comfortable with YouTube is to practice and play around. If you have questions, scroll to the bottom of any YouTube web page and you’ll see a link to YouTube’s Help centre. Many questions are answered there.

If you have signed in to your own account, be sure to press the "Sign Out" button, located at the top right corner of your screen when you’re ready to leave. The YouTube home page will now appear, and the next user will have to enter his or her log-in information to access YouTube.
