When Gigi Davidson joined Betel, she signed up for acrylic painting, computer, and photography courses as a way to discover new techniques and find new hobbies. In early 2017, Gigi began as a volunteer facilitator for an art program at the Reena Foundation. In partnership with Betel, this program offers Reena clients an opportunity to create simple art projects and enhance their creativity. Later that year, she took a break from the program at Reena to launch the colouring club at the centre. She began with four participants, but interest rapidly grew and numbers increased. Coloring reduces stress, promotes social interaction and builds hand and arm dexterity and strength. More importantly, the coloring club has opened a space for new friendships!
In the summer of 2019, Gigi became involved with the knitting club and revitalized the program. She patiently provides support and direction to those learning to crochet and knit.
Gigi is a loving mother of three who cares deeply for her family and has contributed to the community through her volunteer work over the years. She was a dedicated Hebrew teacher for many years and after retirement, continued as a supply teacher. Since retiring, volunteering has become a larger part of her life. “The more I come here and do whatever I can, I get so much more out of it – I love coming here!” Wise words from Gigi, “If you want to add more meaning to your life, I would really encourage you to volunteer at Betel”.
