Dear Bernard Betel Centre Community,
In light of increased precautions and concerns both locally and globally regarding the transmission of the COVID-19 virus, the continued health and safety of our members, volunteers, staff and community participants continues to be paramount and the priority of the Bernard Betel Centre.
To date, there are no known cases or potential exposure to COVID-19 at the Bernard Betel Centre. Our commitment is to mitigate the risk of illness transmission of this infectious virus by implementing the following decision:
To ensure the continued health of our Betel community and the larger Toronto community, we have decided to temporarily close our building effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020, tentatively reopening on April 6, pending information and directives from public health.
Please note that the building will be closed to members and the public except for the preparation and delivery of our Meals on Wheels program. During this time all Bernard Betel Centre programs and services will not be in operation.
Our staff will be working remotely or redeployed to other departments of the organization.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
The entire building is closed and all programs, on-site and off-site, are cancelled, postponed, or rescheduled until further notice. As an act of precaution, we have decided to cancel all events from March 17 to April 6 to minimize the risk of illness transmission. We are proud that our community continues to conduct itself with kindness, care and compassion. Although coming together creating community is our philosophy and purpose, we know that community safety at this point is more important. In order to provide service to the most vulnerable seniors in our community we will continue to prepare and deliver Meals on Wheels at both our Reena and Betel Centre locations.
Our administration offices are closed, though most of our staff will be working remotely to keep you updated and connected. We greatly appreciate your patience with us and commit to stay in regular communication with you in the days and weeks to come.
Our hope if feasible is to offer virtual programs in the near future. Please visit our website for further information and updates. We would love to stay in contact with you and know that virtual programs may be a way of connecting during this difficult time.
This has been a very difficult decision for the staff and Board of Directors of the Bernard Betel Centre. We know the Centre for many of you is your lifeline. We apologize for any inconvenience or upset this may cause you. Your health and safety is our main concern.
We will continue to monitor the situation. Please visit www.betelcentre.org/covid-19-updates for the latest updates, announcements and information. We will remain in constant communication with our community partners and the proper health authorities and will continue to provide updates.
We thank you for your support and look forward to welcoming you again as soon as possible.
