Seniors’ Meals on Wheels Program

The Bernard Betel Centre, in collaboration with Reena and Jewish Family and Child Service, are pleased to be the recipients of the COVID-19 Emergency Community Support Fund. The objective of the COVID-19 Emergency Community Support Fund is to provide assistance to organizations attending to the needs of vulnerable populations during the global COVID-19 outbreak. This funding increases the capacity of community service organizations to respond to the immediate and short-term needs of Canadians through providing community supports and services.

This grant will provide the Bernard Betel Centre and the collaborative partners the ability to expand and meet the growing need of food insecurity by preparing and delivering Meals on Wheels to the most vulnerable and marginalized seniors, Supported Independent Living Individuals and Holocaust survivors.

From January 7, 2021 to March 31, 2021, one hundred and fifty individuals, many of whom have been on agency waitlists and have not had regular access to meals since the onset of the pandemic, will receive culturally appropriate and specific Meals on Wheels prepared and delivered by the Bernard Betel Centre. This program meets a critical need in the community as many seniors are not able to access resources, groceries or food banks.

The Seniors’ Meals on Wheels Program is funded in part by the Government of Canada and United Way Greater Toronto.
