A Message from Gail Gould, Executive Director (May, 2026)

Dear Bernard Betel Centre Community

As we move through this spring season together, and our incredible staff and instructors continue to offer a myriad of outstanding cultural, educational, and wellness programs, I want to take a moment to reflect on what makes the Bernard Betel Centre meaningful and for many their ‘second home’….It’s each and every one of you.

This month, we are blessed to celebrate and acknowledge our incredible volunteers who are being honoured with a milestone celebration on May 1st; whether they have been volunteering for 5, 10, 15, or 20 years, we are truly privileged and honoured to have these dedicated individuals be part of the Betel community.

Your presence, your stories, your laughter, and your willingness to participate are what transform this space into something far greater than a building. Membership  is not simply about access to programs; it’s about being part of a caring and supportive community where you are known, welcomed, and valued. It is being part of a community with shared interests, experiences, concerns, and for many similar backgrounds.

Staying connected to one another is essential to our well-being at every stage of life. We know that isolation or being alone for long periods can quietly impact our health and ultimately our happiness, but connection and a sense of belonging to a community can uplift, energize, and inspire. Whether you’re attending a class, sharing a conversation over a meal in the Betel Café, or trying something new for the first time, you are strengthening not only your own sense of belonging but also the fabric of our Betel community.

The Bernard Betel Centre for Creative Living (our full legal name) is a place where diversity is embraced and celebrated—a place where we can continue to learn, grow, and remain active together. I encourage you to take full advantage of all that membership offers: reach out, participate, and invite others to join you. Together, we are creating a vibrant, inclusive community where everyone belongs and where each day brings new opportunities for connection and joy.

Respectfully,

Gail Gould, Executive Director
