As we begin a new year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the strength of our Bernard Betel Centre community and the role we continue to play in one another’s lives. At a time when the world can feel uncertain and deeply divided, the Betel Centre remains a place of connection, compassion, and belonging. The past year has not been an easy one for our community. We have continued to witness conflict abroad, rising antisemitism throughout the world and closer to home, and the very real impact these events have on the sense of safety and wellbeing of our community. Many in our community, particularly Holocaust survivors and those who have lived through, loss, and hatred, feel these moments deeply. And yet, time and again, they remind us what resilience truly looks like.
At the Bernard Betel Centre, we see that resilience every day in the friendships formed over coffee and programs, in the courage to keep showing up despite fear or fatigue, and in the commitment to caring for one another with dignity and respect. Our work is rooted not only in programs and services, but in creating spaces where older adults feel seen, supported, and valued, especially during challenging times.
As we move into 2026, we do so with a renewed commitment to strengthening our community, expanding opportunities for connection, and ensuring that no senior feels alone. Whether through our Healthy at Home programs, arts and recreation programs, special events, or community supportive services, we will continue to be a source of light and stability for those who rely on us. The start of a new year invites reflection, but it also invites hope. Hope that through kindness, solidarity, and shared responsibility, we can build a future grounded in understanding and kindness. Hope that our community and the Bernard Betel Centre will continue to be a place of warmth, safety, and purpose. And hope that together, we can face whatever lies ahead with courage and compassion.
On behalf of the Bernard Betel Centre Board of Directors and staff, thank you for being part of this remarkable community. Your presence, your generosity, and your commitment make our work possible and meaningful. May 2026 bring you and your loved ones health, connection, and moments of joy, and may we continue to support one another, today and always.
Warmest regards,
Gail Gould
Executive Director
