Over the past 2 years, our volunteer opportunities were limited due to the pandemic, but we are pleased to announce that new requests for volunteer assistance are coming in each week.
We invite our current volunteers, those who had to step back from volunteering and are ready to return and new potential volunteers to review our new volunteer roles to see where they can make a difference.
In addition to these new volunteer roles, our need for Meals on Wheels drivers remains high. During the pandemic, our meal production and delivery has tripled and many more seniors are waiting for this critical support. Food security remains a key concern for vulnerable Holocaust survivors and seniors living in poverty. Our volunteer drivers provide a nutritious meal and a brief moment of social interaction and connection.
By giving your time, energy, skills and passion for others, you can play a key role in welcoming our community back to Betel. Please contact Cheryl Besner at cherylb@betelcentre.org or 416-225-2112, ext. 127 for more information on the volunteer opportunities listed below.

Meals on Wheels Volunteer Driver
Food security remains the number concerns for seniors living in poverty. We have seen an increase in the demand for meals and volunteers play a key role in helping to meet this need. Routes are available Monday through Thursday. Meal pick-up is between 10:00 am and 10:30 am and delivery takes 1-1.5 hours. Volunteers use their own vehicle to deliver the meals. Volunteers are scheduled for a regular weekly route or can provide coverage when one of our regular drivers is not available.

THANKS TO THE VOLUNTEERS IN THE MEALS ON WHEELS DELIVERY PROGRAM. I WOULD ENCOURAGE RECIPIENTS TO DO AS I DO. DEPENDING ON THE RECIPIENT’S FREEZER CAPACITY, THEY CAN RECEIVE DELIVERY OF MULTIPLE MEALS AT ONE TIME, THEREBY REDUCING THE NUMBER OF DELIVERIES PER WEEK PER PERSON. THIS WOULD REDUCE THE NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AS WELL AS THE COST OF THEIR GAS AND UPKEEP OF THEIR VEHICLES. PHONE CALLS CAN BE MADE TO RECIPIENTS TO CHECK ON THEIR WELL-BEING.
Do all in-site volunteers need to mask?
Hi Anita, yes, at this time all on-site volunteer opportunities require wearing a mask.
