Message from Gail Gould, Executive Director

As summer approaches and the days grow longer, I’m reminded of the joy that comes with sunshine, laughter, and community. May is a month of renewal, of gardens blooming and friendships flourishing—and here at the Bernard Betel Centre, we are blooming right alongside you. Whether you’re dancing in our Zumba classes, sharing stories over coffee in the Betel Café, or joining us for one of our exciting day trips, your energy and enthusiasm continue to inspire our staff every single day.

This month, we’re celebrating Yom Ha’Atzmaut, Israel’s 77th Independence Day with a party and acknowledgement of Victory Day in Europe on May 8. Yom Ha’Atzmaut is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the strong bond and incredible contributions Israel has made on our community.  To our incredible members you are the heart of our Centre, and we are so grateful for your wisdom, humour, and resilience. This May, we are very excited about celebrating the return of our Milestone Volunteer Breakfast where we honour those volunteers that have been volunteering at the Centre from 5 years to 15 years. Congratulations to all the recipients and thank you for everything you do for the Centre.

Please join the Betel community at the Walk with Israel on Sunday, May 25….come by our booth and say hello!

Be sure to check out our Special Events in Connect! throughout the month planned just for you—from intergenerational activities to our special Shabbat Program on May 24 and our wellness workshops and, concerts…of course, some fun surprises along the way!

Thank you for being a part of our vibrant Betel community family. Whether you’re 55 or 105, your presence brings warmth and joy to our Centre. Let’s make this spring a season to remember—filled with connection, celebration, and sunshine.

Warmest wishes,

Gail Gould
Executive Director
