National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30, the Bernard Betel Centre joins Canadians in observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honours the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. Observed as Orange Shirt Day, it’s a reminder of the powerful message: Every Child Matters.

Ways to begin or continue your learning:
  • Indigenous peoples and cultures – Explore the unique histories, traditions, and spiritual practices of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
  • Indigenous languages – Learn about efforts to reclaim and strengthen Indigenous languages.
  • Indigenous history in Canada – Understand the contributions and challenges of Indigenous peoples throughout Canada’s history.
  • Reconciliation – Explore how individuals and communities can contribute to meaningful reconciliation.
We invite our community to wear orange, take time to listen, learn, and reflect, as we continue the journey toward truth, healing, and reconciliation.
